LEDs could have cut light pollution — instead we wasted the opportunity
LED technology had the potential to drastically reduce light pollution and preserve dark night skies, but that opportunity is being squandered. Instead of using LEDs' energy efficiency to cut overall light output, cities and industries are simply illuminating more areas than before. Scientists warn that without a change in approach, artificial light at night will keep increasing despite the more efficient technology.
