Ordinary laptop solves problem once thought to need a quantum computer
Researchers used tensor networks to compress the wave function of hundreds of entangled qubits, enabling quantum calculations to run on relatively modest classical hardware including a laptop. Their results matched both theoretical predictions and output from an actual quantum computer. The breakthrough could open new avenues for studying quantum dynamics and materials science without expensive quantum hardware.
