Rocket launch costs down 96% since 1960 – and could fall further by 2040

The cost of reaching space has dropped 96% over the past six decades, and a new study suggests a similar decline is possible by 2040. Earlier research was flawed because it tracked rocket prices rather than cost per kilogram launched over a vehicle's lifetime, according to co-author Francesco Nicoli of Politecnico University of Turin. Future progress could be slowed by growing orbital debris or a single company dominating the commercial launch market.
