MERICS expert warns Europe is too slow to act against China's pressure
Mikko Huotari, director of the Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS) and one of Europe's leading China experts, warns that Europe talks a lot but acts too slowly in response to growing Chinese economic pressure. Beijing is increasingly targeting European industries, including the automotive sector. Huotari cautions that without political will to use newly created tools, Europe risks falling into a "negative spiral" while China capitalises on the delay.
