Swimming banned at 66 Baltic Sea beaches due to high waves and rip currents
Swimming bans were in force at 66 Baltic Sea beaches in Poland on Monday at noon. Authorities cited high waves, strong winds, lightning and rip currents — described as a "treacherous killer" at sea — as the reasons. Rip currents are especially dangerous as they can rapidly drag swimmers away from shore.
