Simon Field, former Rotterdam Film Festival head, dies aged 80

Simon Field, a pioneering film programmer and former head of the Rotterdam International Film Festival, died on July 16 aged 80. He was celebrated for championing filmmakers including Wang Bing, Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Christopher Nolan. His death was confirmed by veteran film critic Geoff Andrew in a blog obituary.
