EU fines AliExpress record €550M for allowing illegal and dangerous products

The European Commission fined AliExpress, owned by China's Alibaba, a record €550 million for failing to prevent the sale of counterfeit goods, unsafe toys and dangerous cosmetics on its platform. It is the largest-ever penalty under the EU's Digital Services Act. EU tech chief Henna Virkkunen said products were still being recommended even after being found to breach safety standards.
