What to avoid in pregnancy: raw meat, mould-ripened cheese and certain fish are off limits
During pregnancy, raw meat and fish, unpasteurised mould-ripened cheeses and certain high-mercury fish species pose risks to both mother and baby. They can cause bacterial infections such as listeria, salmonella and toxoplasmosis, and expose the foetus to harmful toxins. Experts recommend thorough cooking and safe alternatives throughout all nine months of pregnancy.
