Permafrost Over 13,000 Years Old Found 400 m Below Suwałki
Nearly 400 metres below ground near Suwałki, in the area of Udryn and Szypliszki, geologists have found remnants of permafrost dating back over 13,000 years to the last Ice Age. Scientists had known about the unusual nature of this subsoil since the 1970s. The find is unique in Central Europe and provides direct evidence of the glacial conditions that once prevailed in Poland.
