Polish municipalities face depopulation — seniors rising, children scarce

In only one in twenty Polish municipalities does the number of children come close to matching the number of people aged 60 and over. Population ageing is currently faster in the west of Poland than in the east, though it poses a major challenge everywhere. Depopulation and an ageing population are identified as the gravest threats facing local governments, affecting public transport and access to services.
