India's first private rocket Vikram-1 reaches orbit on debut launch

Skyroot Aerospace's Vikram-1 rocket, India's first fully commercial satellite launcher, successfully reached a 280-mile (450 km) orbit on its debut flight Saturday. The rocket lifted off at 06:35 UTC from Sriharikota Island in the Bay of Bengal after a 30-minute delay due to a last-minute technical issue. Standing 22 metres tall, Vikram-1 can carry payloads of up to 350 kg.
