Flights within 5,000 km of Europe to face CO2 charges from 2029

From 2029, EU carbon trading (ETS) charges will apply to all flights landing within 5,000 km of Europe's geographical centre, EU Climate Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra announced on Friday. The expansion means flights to Istanbul, Dubai and Doha will be included. The move extends the existing EU carbon pricing scheme beyond European airspace.
