One in 10 Australians dissatisfied with life as 'wellbeing poverty' hits record high
Australian Bureau of Statistics data show that nearly 2.2 million Australians aged 15 and over are living below the wellbeing poverty line in 2025. Some 9.7% — roughly one in 10 — rated their life satisfaction at four or below out of 10, double the share recorded a decade ago. Community cohesion and social trust were identified as factors that lift happiness scores.
