Augustów: Poland's most nostalgic communist-era resort still draws tourists
Augustów in the Podlaskie region, surrounded by nine lakes and the Augustów Primeval Forest, was one of the most popular holiday destinations in communist-era Poland. Songs were written about it and it attracted both the social elite and ordinary citizens. Today the town still offers nature trails, kayaking routes and a charming historic tourist infrastructure.
