Elderly left at A&E: "The state abandons caregivers to fend for themselves"
Every holiday season in Poland, reports resurface of elderly people being left at hospital emergency departments by their families. Nurse Gilbert Kolbe argues the phenomenon stems primarily from caregiver helplessness rather than malice, as the Polish state largely fails to support those caring for elderly relatives. With an ageing population and inadequate long-term care infrastructure, the problem is expected to worsen.
