Iron shackles found in Celtic settlement prove Gauls kept slaves
Archaeologists from France's INRAP institute, excavating a Celtic settlement in Allonnes (Loire Valley), unearthed five pairs of iron shackles dating to the 3rd century BC. The finds include double wrist restraints and ankle irons. The wrist rings measure just 6 cm in diameter, suggesting they were used on women or children. Experts call them among the strongest physical evidence yet of slavery in Gaulish society.
