Molten salt and human sweat explored as renewable energy storage solutions

In the UAE, the world's largest battery storage scheme is being built, combining 5.2 GW of solar capacity with 19 GWh of storage to power the equivalent of 500,000 homes overnight. Developers from Nevada to Manchester are trialling unconventional technologies, including molten salt batteries and electrolytes derived from compounds found in human sweat. Cracking energy storage is seen as the pivotal challenge of the clean energy transition.
