Portugal after blackout: renewables not to blame, but solar farms need more oversight
A year after the major blackout that hit Spain and Portugal, the Portuguese government says renewables were not the cause but acknowledges that photovoltaic farms need stricter oversight than was previously in place in Spain. Portugal is also joining Poland in pushing to retain free CO2 emission allowances within EU climate policy. The blackout has prompted a broader debate about grid stability in Europe.
