Since the start of April 2026, 131 people have drowned in Poland, including 67 in June alone and 17 in the first half of July, according to the Government Security Centre and Police data. Poland ranks among the top three EU countries for drowning fatalities. Contrary to popular belief, most deaths occur not in the Baltic Sea but in lakes, ponds and swimming pools, with rivers in second place.
