Scientists discover lost 35-million-year-old branch of Australia's marsupials
Fossils unearthed in Queensland, Australia, point to a newly recognised marsupial order that may have survived on the continent for around 35 million years. The discovery challenges the long-held view that all Australian marsupials descended from a single straightforward ancestral lineage. Researchers say the find rewrites part of the evolutionary story of Australia's unique mammals.
