Atmosphere Detected on Rocky Exoplanet LHS 1140 b, 49 Light-Years Away

Astronomers have detected traces of helium in the atmosphere of the rocky exoplanet LHS 1140 b, located roughly 49 light-years from Earth. This is the first time an atmosphere has been discovered on an Earth-like planet outside the Solar System. Scientists consider LHS 1140 b one of the most promising candidates yet in the search for extraterrestrial life.
