US and allies develop shipping corridor to bypass Strait of Hormuz
The United States and five other countries are developing a programme to reroute maritime trade away from the Strait of Hormuz onto alternative shipping lanes. The initiative is expected to be fully operational within two years, according to Syria's SANA news agency. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global oil supplies.
