US and Six Nations Plan Alternative Routes to Bypass Strait of Hormuz Within 5 Years

The United States, Syria, Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon and Egypt are working to develop alternative transport and energy routes bypassing the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically vital chokepoint long used as leverage by Iran. The initiators have given themselves five years to implement the plan. Washington aims to reduce the strait's strategic importance and weaken Iran's hand in the regional conflict.
