2004 Matt Damon epic resurfaces on streaming thanks to Nolan's The Odyssey success

With Christopher Nolan 's latest epic, The Odyssey , demolishing box-office projections in its opening weekend of release, a 22-year-old movie based on the same source material is witnessing a resurgence on streaming. Interestingly, the 2004 movie was nearly directed by Nolan as his first big-budget project, but he was forced to back out. He was subsequently given the opportunity to direct Batman Begins , which was the first in a remarkable streak of critically acclaimed blockbusters for the filmmaker. Starring Matt Damon in the lead role, The Odyssey is Nolan's most expensive movie, matching The Dark Knight Rises ' reported budget of $250 million. The film is based on Homer 's epic poem of the same name, which has inspired earlier adaptations as well as major hits across genres.
