Jagna Janecka: Polish actress who fled occupation and became a US fashion icon

Jagna Janecka was a rising star of Polish cinema before World War II, but her career was cut short by the outbreak of war. During the German occupation she entered a relationship with a German man, which her family considered a betrayal of Poland, though new research suggests she may have been coerced through blackmail. Long believed to have vanished after 1943, she in fact emigrated to the United States, where she became a prominent local fashion authority.
