Ethiopian Drill explodes from social media onto the streets of Addis Ababa

Just a year ago, drill music in Ethiopia existed only on social media. Over the past few months the fast-paced, often violently-themed hip-hop genre has taken over mainstream bars and nightclubs in Addis Ababa. Its rapid rise among Gen Z is linked to political and economic uncertainty, though it faces resistance in Ethiopia's conservative society.
