French wildfires scorch 2,000 hectares including historic Fontainebleau forest near Paris

France is battling a series of devastating wildfires following record-breaking heatwaves, with the government stating the country has not seen so many outbreaks since World War II. One of the largest fires has burned thousands of hectares in the historic Fontainebleau forest, south of Paris, scorching approximately 2,000 hectares in total. The Fondation du Patrimoine has launched a fundraising campaign to restore the damaged woodland through replanting.
