Poznań 1956: how communists prepared for a repeat after the workers' uprising

The workers' uprising in Poznań in June 1956 caught the communist authorities completely off guard. Prime Minister Józef Cyrankiewicz threatened to cut off the hand of anyone who dared to challenge the regime. After suppressing the revolt, authorities drew up detailed contingency plans to prevent any repeat of the surprise.
