Pesticides on fruit and vegetables: how to wash them off effectively
Fruit and vegetables — including organic produce — carry residues of pesticides applied both in orchards and in storage facilities as preservatives. Rinsing under running water removes some residues but not all; scrubbing with a brush or soaking in a baking soda solution is more effective. Complete removal is impossible, as some chemicals penetrate into the flesh of the produce.
