Interoception identified as the human sixth sense — reading signals from within your own body

A growing body of research suggests humans have not five but six senses. The sixth is interoception — the ability to sense and interpret signals from inside the body, such as hunger, thirst, sleepiness, body temperature, heartbeat and breathing. Scientists consider it a key component of human health and wellbeing.
