LiDAR reveals hidden Maya metropolis in Mexico's Campeche jungle

Archaeologists using LiDAR technology have created the first detailed map of a Maya metropolis hidden deep in the Balam Kú Biosphere Reserve in Mexico's Campeche state. The dense, inaccessible jungle had long prevented exploration of the area. The discovery is considered a landmark advance in understanding Maya civilisation.
