Capital One releases VulnHunter, open-source AI tool that finds code vulnerabilities before hackers do

Capital One has released VulnHunter on GitHub under an Apache 2.0 licence — an agentic AI tool that scans source code for exploitable vulnerabilities, maps attacker paths and suggests targeted fixes before code ships to production. The move is a striking turnaround for a bank still associated with its 2019 data breach, which exposed data of 106 million people and cost it an $80 million federal fine. Capital One describes VulnHunter as one of the most ambitious attempts by a major financial institution to turn offensive AI into a public defensive resource.
