NASA measures magnetic fields of Lighthouse Nebula pulsar for the first time

NASA scientists used the IXPE (Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer) telescope to directly measure the magnetic fields of pulsar PSR J1101−6101 inside the Lighthouse Nebula for the first time. A pulsar is a rapidly spinning neutron star with an intense magnetic field. The composite image, released on 9 July 2026, combines data from NASA's Chandra and IXPE observatories plus Australia's Compact Telescope Array.
