476,000-year-old wooden structure in Zambia predates Homo sapiens

Archaeologists at Kalambo Falls in Zambia have unearthed the world's oldest known wooden structure, dated to approximately 476,000 years ago. The builder could not have been Homo sapiens, as our species had not yet appeared. The structure was created by another bipedal hominid, whose identity researchers are working to determine.
