Japan eases imperial succession rules but female emperors still banned

Japan has amended its imperial succession law to allow male distant relatives aged over 15 to be adopted back into the imperial family. However, the long-standing ban on female emperors remains unchanged. The reform is aimed at addressing the shrinking size of the imperial family.
