Paris heatwave: 1,565 excess deaths in one week in June

France's public health agency reported 1,565 more deaths than expected in the Paris region over a single week in June during a record-breaking heatwave, pushing total excess mortality to around 3,000. People over the age of 65 accounted for more than 80% of fatalities, and temperatures broke all-time records across the country.
