"Lex Smród" bill may strip rural residents of the right to complain about farm nuisances
Since February 2025, Poland's Ministry of Agriculture has been working on a law protecting the agricultural production functions of rural areas, dubbed "Lex Smród" (Stench Law) or "Lex Rolnik" (Farmer Law) by critics. The draft legislation would significantly limit rural residents' ability to seek legal redress against farm-related nuisances such as noise and odour. The bill has not yet entered into force but is already raising concerns about the silencing of local communities.
