Scientist Martin Picard tests his mitochondrial theory of mind on himself
Neurobiologist Martin Picard subjected himself to a 24-hour research protocol in which nurses drew his blood every hour, including while he slept, passing it through a hole in his chamber wall to a research team next door. The self-experiment is part of his work on the mitochondrial theory of mind, which links mitochondrial function to psychological states and consciousness. Picard is investigating how mitochondrial health shapes brain function and mood.
