$1,100 AI micro-drone hunts mosquitoes using phased-array sonar, weighs just 40g

Former MBDA missile engineer Alex Toussaint has developed a 40-gram autonomous micro-drone that hunts and kills mosquitoes mid-flight using AMD phased-array ultrasonic sonar and onboard AI. His Y Combinator-backed startup Tornyol prices the current prototype at $1,100, though mass production is expected to reduce costs. In an early trial, the drone detected a 2 mm plastic ball from 30 centimetres using just 1/1300th of its planned transmitting power; flights are currently limited to 3 minutes.
