First atmosphere detected on Earth-like planet in habitable zone

Astronomers have detected an atmosphere on an Earth-like rocky planet located in the habitable zone of a distant star — a first of its kind. The discovery marks a major step forward in the search for potentially life-supporting worlds beyond our Solar System. Previously, atmospheres had been detected mainly on hot gas giants rather than on rocky planets at suitable distances from their stars.
