Germany seriously considering French nuclear deterrence umbrella, says Merz

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz told Reuters that Germany is "seriously analysing" France's offer to extend its nuclear deterrence programme to cover Germany. Merz said the proposal could lead to the development of a new defence doctrine. Currently, Germany relies on US nuclear weapons stationed on its soil for its nuclear deterrence.
