Hungary approved 18,906 surveillance warrants in 16 years, rejected only 50
Hungarian security services received ministerial approval for surveillance in 18,906 cases between 2010 and 2026, with only 50 requests rejected, according to data published by the Hungarian news portal 24.hu. The figures reveal a near-automatic approval process under Viktor Orbán's government. Unlike in many EU countries, Hungary does not require judicial authorisation for wiretaps — the justice minister decides.
