AWS billing glitch showed users false charges up to $1.7 billion

Amazon Web Services displayed erroneous estimated bills of up to $1.7 billion for a single month to some users, whose normal costs were fractions of a cent. AWS acknowledged the issue on its health status page, labelling it "Inaccurate Estimated Billing Data". Users flooded Reddit and raised urgent support tickets before the glitch was confirmed as a display error.
