Canadian wildfire smoke blankets Chicago and New York with hazardous air

Smoke from Canadian wildfires, which have burned approximately 5.9 million acres this season, has severely degraded air quality in cities including Chicago and New York. Residents described breathing the air as "like smoking cigarettes all day." Authorities on both sides of the border are urging people to stay indoors and wear masks where possible.
