ICE arrests Chinese human rights lawyer Wu Shaoping while his asylum case is pending

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested Wu Shaoping, a Chinese human rights lawyer, in Pennsylvania while his asylum application remains pending. Wu fled China at the end of 2019 during a government crackdown on rights lawyers, entered the US on a tourist visa and filed for asylum in 2020. Human rights advocates fear he could be deported to China and face persecution.
