Sun-like star devoured one of its planets, leaving a lithium fingerprint

Astronomers have identified a distant Sun-like star that appears to have consumed one of its own planets, evidenced by an unusually high concentration of lithium not seen in comparable stars. Comparisons with dozens of similar stars confirmed the signal is highly anomalous. Scientists believe a massive brown dwarf companion may have gravitationally nudged the planet onto a fatal plunge into the star.
