Startup Sonothera claims ultrasound could unlock gene therapy for Duchenne muscular dystrophy
California-based startup Sonothera has spent the past year presenting stunning animal data suggesting its ultrasound technology could dramatically boost the effectiveness of gene therapy, potentially treating Duchenne muscular dystrophy and other genetic diseases. Expert reaction is sceptical: Eric Olson of UT-Southwestern says "I find it hard to believe," while Jeffrey Chamberlain of the University of Washington calls it "a bit too good to be true." The company has no clinical data yet.
