LGBTQ+ youth crisis line to return by year-end, but under new rules on trans identity
The Trump administration has confirmed that specialised LGBTQ+ youth services will return to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by the end of 2026, having been shut down in July 2025. Congress allocated $33.1 million to reinstate the line and directed that services support all LGBTQ+ youth. However, federal officials want the services to comply with Trump's executive order that effectively denies the existence of transgender and non-binary identities, potentially altering the nature of support offered.
