Eight weeks of salsa classes cut depression and social anxiety, Oxford study finds
Researchers at the University of Oxford and Oxford Health NHS Trust ran a randomised controlled trial with 121 young adults suffering mild to moderate depression and anxiety. Those assigned to an eight-week salsa programme showed significant reductions in depressive symptoms and social anxiety compared with a control group. Salsa's physical benefits – cardiovascular health, muscle tone and posture – were already established; the study adds mental health gains to the list.
