Japan eases royal succession rules but women still barred from throne

Japan has passed a new bill allowing the adoption of male distant relatives aged over 15 back into the imperial family to widen the pool of potential successors to the throne. However, the long-standing ban on female emperors remains in place. The reform aims to address the shrinking number of eligible heirs.
